pm | Re: Blue Badge Scheme Review (23rd Dec 11 at 3:58am UTC) | | My youngest daughter has one, so i parked in a disabled space at a supermarket. I put the blue badge & clock in front screen. Then i got my daughters wheelchair outta the boot. As we approached the entrance i heard someone shout hey what are you doing. I stopped & looked at a man walking toward me. He said. he had a blue badge and began ranting about me using the last parking space. I pointed out my daughter is disabled, in her wheelchair and i was doing nothing wrong by parking there. His answer was, as she is in a wheelchair i could park anywhere as she was being pushed in her chair. I answered i could have parked anywhere, but as my daughter has the badge, i had parked in that spot. He went off on one I shant write where i told him to go, nor what i suggested he should do when he got there

Another bone of contention on this subject is the amount of parent and child bays with extra space to open doors as close to the doors as possible, versus the number of disabled bays, nothing stopping the children being pushed across the car park in a trolley but they as a group, will likely spend more in the supermarket. Most supermarkets appear to pay lip service to the policing of the use of disabled bays, a common cause of abuse of the system.

As we are off to hull this afto to collect our youngest daughter, im going to put the parent & child parking to the test As our car shall contain two parents and one child (age 26) im going to park in one such coveted space. After all, it does say parent & child I have no doubt some busybody will swoop down like the angel of death to point out my errant behaviour
I will update later today what happens

Unfortunately no-one ever challenged us. Then I got my blue badge and used the disabled spaces, which were closer than the parent/child ones.

pm | Re: Blue Badge Scheme Review (26th Dec 11 at 2:05am UTC) | | Thanks Chris. I have another idea bout using parent & child parking. I reckon we can all use them if disabled bays are full. It doesnt actually say you must have your child with you at that particular point in time. So i reckon we can use them anyway
